Artificial Intelligence, Algorithms and Our Capacity to Think
Humanity sits at a precipice, or perhaps that precipice has already been crossed.
We sit on a timeline where many of us are handing over our choices, as well as our capacity to think for ourselves, with the advent of AI.
Our algorithms on social media are set up so that more information is fed to us, which reiterates that which is deemed by AI to be topics that interest us, therefore meaning that we are losing our capacity to critically think and engage in opposing views as our own justified through what we receive through social media, Google searches, etc., etc.
Morality, Values and Our Responsibility in the Age of AI
So for humanity, our biggest responsibility, or one of the biggest responsibilities that we need to bring into our co-creation with AI, is a clear intent of our morality and of our value systems.
So this requires us to be fully conscious of what it is that we stand for, what is important to us, and to ensure that anything that we co-create with AI should be, as a fundamental, an expression of those values and our ethical responsibility.
Taking Time Out From the Algorithm
We need to take time out from the algorithm. We need to take time out from social media and get out there and do our own weeding within the garden. Get out, get our hands into the earth, connect in with our own true consciousness to develop practices that we engage in on a daily basis that keep our expression as humans that are in alignment with our own personal true North.
Not our algorithim.
We stand, or perhaps we’ve crossed over the precipice of being able to think, research, create without AI.
It is now up to us individually to recognize our own moral compass and to ensure that all that we bring forth is in alignment with right relationship with the earth, our values, with one another, and utilize this technology that we have at our hands to create a world that is infinitely better.
Finding Your Values and Your Own True North
Do you know what you value?
You may like to take the time to reflect upon over your lifetime what qualities are most important to you
within yourself, within others...
What triggers you most?
Dishonesty? Injustice? Selfishness? Lack of care or concern for others?
For therein lies the key to your True North, and becomes what you are willing to co-cocreate with or tolerate moving forward.
We must find ways to connect with our own inner voice and our own compass in a world that is moving, faster and faster.
All we can do is slow things down, consciously.
Otherwise, we are swept up in the circus.
Making decisions on the run, moving before we have the full picture.
Slowing Down in a World That Is Speeding Up
For me, many of you know, this is my daily practice.
Every morning, I get up and mostly, before I engage with others, or my phone, I dedicate a minimum of 20 minutes to myself, doing asana, generally in the sun, practicing pranyama ( breathwork ) and simple meditation ( just sitting in silence - witnessing what I hear - with my eyes closed ).
This is my saving grace.
And I believe humanity’s.
In a world that’s speeding up - we need to consciously slow ourselves down.
